Google still hasn’t identified the cause of the issue that occurred during the Google Play system update, as reported by the BleepingComputer website after contacting the company.

I am curious why this issue has not prompted Google to find a solution. It is frustrating to spend a lot of money on a phone only for it to become unusable after an update.
Google Play system updates were introduced in Android 10 to offer security patches, enhancements, and safeguards for Android components on devices lacking the most recent security updates.
Google has slowly rolled out an update for Pixel phones in January 2024, which means some users may not have received the troublesome update yet.
If you are using the previous Google Play version from November 2023, I suggest sticking with it and postponing the update until conditions get better. To find this information, navigate to Settings > Security and privacy (or Security and lock screen) > Google Play system updates.
