Google Pixel becomes inoperable following the update released in January 2024.

Google Pixel devices faced severe usability issues post an update to the Google Play system in January 2024. Various Pixel models experienced accessibility problems, including the inability to access storage, utilize the camera app, take screenshots, and run third-party apps.

Google still hasn’t identified the cause of the issue that occurred during the Google Play system update, as reported by the BleepingComputer website after contacting the company.

We acknowledge this issue and are looking into it.

In the Google Pixel Phone support forum, a Pixel smartphone user mentioned:

I am curious why this issue has not prompted Google to find a solution. It is frustrating to spend a lot of money on a phone only for it to become unusable after an update.

Google Play system updates were introduced in Android 10 to offer security patches, enhancements, and safeguards for Android components on devices lacking the most recent security updates.

Google has slowly rolled out an update for Pixel phones in January 2024, which means some users may not have received the troublesome update yet.

If you are using the previous Google Play version from November 2023, I suggest sticking with it and postponing the update until conditions get better. To find this information, navigate to Settings > Security and privacy (or Security and lock screen) > Google Play system updates.
