Epic Games has emerged victorious in a significant conflict with Apple, enabling the reentry of Fortnite on iPhones. This development follows Apple’s removal of Epic Games from the App Store three years ago due to rule violations by the game’s owner. After a prolonged legal battle, a recent turn of events, including a new law in the European Union, ensures the game’s comeback, particularly in Europe.
Fortnite is set to make a return to iPhones, but this will be limited to the European Union.
Apple originally aimed to prohibit Epic Games entirely, but a judge ruled against this action for the Unreal Engine account, which has a wide user base. Epic Games sought to return to the App Store for app sales in Korea, but Apple declined, proposing reentry under the same terms as other developers.
The European Union has introduced the Digital Markets Act, requiring Apple to permit other app stores in the area. Consequently, Epic Games may regain its status as a recognized developer in the EU.
Epic Games announced the restoration of their Apple developer account, enabling the return of Fortnite to iPhones. They also intend to introduce the Epic Games Store on iOS by 2024, with the Epic Games Sweden team managing Fortnite in Europe and the mobile store.
